Missions Fest Alberta took place Feb. 20-22, 2015 in Edmonton, AB at the Shaw Centre. One Mission Society and Men For Missions each had a booth, engaging people about the opportunities for mission involvement.
There were school children who came through the displays on Friday afternoon as part of their school program. It was an honour to speak to them and see their bright, shining faces as they learned about missions, missionaries and the need for both.
There were many opportunities to connect or reconnect with other mission agency personnel. We really are part of a fairly small group of ministries, so after a while friendships are developed. We (usually) encourage each other and pray for their needs even as they pray for ours.
Helmut and Tina Markeli are troopers when it comes to engaging the curious at the booth. Their years of experience in mission work around the world uniquely qualifies them to speak about the task of missions and the need for workers to be called to the harvest fields. It truly is a privilege to stand along side them and learn what it is to faithfully declare that the "fields are white for harvest and wouldn't you like to consider being in the harvest crew?"
Another blessing is the willingness of constituents to come out and volunteer their time to man the booths and talk to the people who were walking through the exhibits. One Mission Society Canada is grateful for Gord and Doreen Wallace who spent Saturday with us. Like the Markeli's, they speak to people from a deep well of experience from their years in Haiti.
We must also say thanks to Kevin and Penney Willms who are farmers in Alberta, and have led numerous teams into Haiti to help build homes in the Homes For Haiti project. They are also instrumental in raising funds for these projects as well.
Please pray for each one of the people to whom we spoke, that they would have ears to hear the call of the Lord of the harvest to go to the nations.
