Disaster Relief Ecuador
On April 16, 2016, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the northwest region of Ecuador, devastating miles and miles of coastline, as well as toppling hundreds of buildings and destroying dozens of highways inland.
Nearly 700 people died and thousands more are seriously injured. Our OMS team, made up of OMS missionaries, national coworkers, and church association members are partnering with Extreme Response, along with several other mission organizations, combining our efforts to meet the needs of the Ecuadorian people. Plans are being made for both short-term relief and to help people in the region for the longer term. Plans to help include starting a soup kitchen, distributing basic relief kits, opening a refuge center, and providing counseling to those in need. Spending of funds raised by One Mission Society is confined to programs approved by the organization. Each restricted contribution designated toward such an approved program or project will be used as designated with the understanding that when the need for such a program or project has been met, or cannot be completed for any reason determined by One Mission Society, the remaining contributions will be used by One Mission Society where the need is greatest.
